Final Reflection

I got a lot of lessons after joining microteaching class. First, I learn how to manage the class. I should speak louder so I can get the students’ attention but it does not mean that I speak harshly. Speaking louder means that I should speak clearly and understandable. Second, I learn how to speak fluently in front of the class. I always prepare what I want to say before I perform in front of the class. It makes me become more confident while teaching in front of the class. Third, I learn how to manage time. Before microteaching class I do not know about time management. I do not know whether time management is important or not but after microteaching class I know that time management is very important. We have to consider the time management because we have to give a proper set induction, main activities and set closure. Fourth, I learn how to make an interesting material. The material should be interesting because if it is not so the students will get bored and do not pay attention to our lesson. For example I should make an interesting power point so the students will pay attention to my explanation or I should make an interesting listening material so the students will not get bored. Fifth, I learn how to make a clear explanation. We should give a clear explanation to our students so they will not get “ajaran sesat”. Before explaining to our students, we have to mastery our material. By mastering material we can be more confident while teaching the students.
I think I almost have the characteristics of a good teacher. I try to do my best while doing the microteaching class. I prepare the material, I learn the material before teaching, I practice my speech in front of the mirror...Yeah...At least I have prepared it. I think I almost become a better teacher because after joining microteaching class I got a lot of lessons about how to teach properly. I learn a lot from this class and I try to apply it when teaching my junior and my classmates. I think I can be a good teacher but I have to learn more, more and more…
I think I have helped my friends to have the characteristics of a good teacher. I help them by being a naughty and noisy student. My friends will find the way to overcome those noisy students. I think it can develop their skill in teaching or managing the class. Sometimes I become a passive student and my friends as teacher will find the way to overcome that passive students. Maybe by having game before the class or giving gift or praise, etc… I think my behavior can help them to develop their skill. I think my friends also help me. My friends do the same thing like what I do. My friends become a naughty or noisy or passive student so I should find the idea to have my students’ attention. So I think we have helped each other.
Of course I help my friends honestly because we have the same feeling. We are stressful while finding and preparing the material. We feel afraid and nervous when we will perform in front of the class. We have the same feeling so I do not want to add more burdens to my friends by giving them low scores. I help them honestly and sincerely because I feel the same feeling with them.
Of course I feel happy with their comments. They give me great comments. Their comments really help me to improve my ability. From that comments I can know my strengths and my weaknesses. Their comments can develop my skill.
Everyone wants to get A. Of course I want to get A as well. I have tried to give my best and I hope I can get the best score too. I am optimist I can get A because I have given my best for microteaching class, I have learned and prepared the material. So I hope my effort will help me to give the best score (A).. :D

15th Reflection

Last Tuesday there were Dhimas, Benny and Nimas’ performances. Their performances were good. The first performance was Dhimas. I like the way he taught us because he was very enthusiastic. He was full of spirit. He always smiles all the time. Dhimas taught listening class. I also like his material. He used video for his material. It was good because it became more interesting. The video was also funny so we really enjoyed watching and listening to the video. I learned that I should give an interesting material for my students so they will pay attention to my material. The second performance was Benny. Benny was a very funny teacher. He could interact with all of the students. He also could explain the material well. It was good. However, sometimes I could not hear his voice clearly, maybe he should speak louder. The third performance was Nimas. She was also good. I like the way she spoke. She spoke fluently. Her pronunciation was also good. She had a good interaction with the students. I think as a teacher later, we should have a good interaction with our students so they will pay attention to our lesson.
Last Thursday was our last meeting in micro teaching class. I was quite sad because I could not pretend as a naughty student. Later, I will face the real naughty students when PPL..ohh…it’s horrible. There were four performances. There were Deta, Mila, Cahyo and mas Rahmat’ performances because of that we began our class at 3.30pm.The first performance was Deta. I like the way she spoke. She was very fluent. Her pronunciation was good. I like her material because she explained clearly. Her power point was complete and understandable. Later, as a teacher, we should give a clear explanation so our students will not get “ajaran sesat”. The second performance was Mila. It was same with  Deta’ performance. Mila’s performance was good. She spoke fluently. Her explanation was also good. Her power point was great so I could understand well. The third performance was Cahyo. He was good. He was a funny teacher. He could interact with all of the students. It was good. The fourth performance was mas Rahmat. He was very enthusiastic. He was a cheerful teacher. Actually I was very enthusiastic too at that time. I cannot wait his performance. However, I do not know, suddenly I was getting bored maybe because he spoke all the time and he did not give us exercise. I was surprised when suddenly mas Rahmat asked us to stand up and sing together. He asked us to sing “I have a dream”. Woww….it was amazing. I could not believe it. However, my friends and I enjoyed this moment. We sang together. We danced together, it was really fun. It was really a nice way to close our meeting. I cannot forget this moment. It was great..hehehehe…

14th Reflection

Last Tuesday there were Hening, Rian and Bayu performances. Their performances were good. The first performance was Hening. I like the way he taught. He taught speaking class. He is really funny so all of the students enjoyed his performance. From that case, I can learn that we should interact with our students honestly. It means that we should have a good interaction with our students so they will listen to us and pay attention to our material. The second performance was Rian. He is also a good teacher. He taught reading class about recount text. He gave us a complete handout and a lot of exercises. It was good because more practicing is better. I learned that as a good teacher we should give our students a complete material and an appropriate exercise. The last performance was Bayu. He was also good. He taught writing class about recount text. I like the way he taught. He was very calm. He was also funny. He could make a good interaction with the students. From that case, I got lesson that we should have a good interaction with our students so they will pay attention to our material.
Last Thursday there were no class because it was holiday… :D

13th Reflection

Last Tuesday there were Siwi and Riska’s performances. Their performances were great. Actually there were three performances that day but unfortunately mas Rahmat did not come so there were just two performances. The first performance was Siwi. Siwi taught speaking class about how to make a list of the job. I like Siwi materials. It was really fresh and up to date. The material is about royal wedding celebration. We as students were pretending as a chef of royal wedding reception. We should make a list our job that we have to do. Like preparing the vegetables, cooking, preparing the tables, etc. I think it was very interesting. From that case, I can see that we should give an interesting material to our students so they will not get bored and will pay attention to our material. Besides that, our material should be fresh and up to date so the students can be more enthusiastic with our material. After that, there was Riska’s performance. She taught reading class about simple instructions. Riska’s material was also good. She gave the students motivation to answer her questions by giving them chocolate. It was very interesting. I am very happy if I become Riska’s student because I will try to answer her question to get the chocolate. From that case, I can learn that we should motivate our students to respond our material for example by giving gift or praise. It was really inspiring.
Last Thursday was my final microteaching. There were Sely and Yosi’s performances so I was the last person who did teaching practice at that day. I was very afraid and nervous at that time. I was afraid if I could not do my best but finally I could pass it. It was final test so I became very nervous to do this teaching. I think the lesson was successful because the students gave positive responds to my material. I taught listening class about asking and giving things for students in Junior High School. Actually, I found many difficulties in finding and preparing the material. I realized that finding listening material is difficult so I decided to make my own material by recording the material by myself. I was not confident enough to record my self especially my voice. I realized that I do not have beautiful voice and my pronunciation is so-so. However, I don’t have many choices, so I made my material by my self. At that time, I thought that I should make an interesting material because my students were still in Junior High School, so I added some short sounds in the beginning, middle and end of the conversation. I hope mu students will like it.
I think there were a lot of weaknesses of my teaching; the first one was my pronunciation, sometimes I pronounced some words incorrectly and I did not recognize it. The second one was management class. I realized that my students were very noisy but when I reprimanded them, they still talking with their friends. However I tried to do my best, to reprimand them. The third was that I do not like my gesture, the way I standup, walking, etc. After watching my video recording, I could see that my gesture was not good, I look like “mbungkuk” and I moved my foot many time.
I think the strengths of my teaching was that my students like my material especially my sound effect in the beginning conversation because when they heard the sound, many students danced and moved their head, body or hand. I do not know whether the sounds distract the lesson or not. However, in my opinion I gave the sound effect because I want to make it more interesting so the students will not get bored with my conversation. Besides that, by giving sounds effect I hope I can have student’s attention to listen the conversation and answer the questions. I think all of the students were active, they involved in the lesson. I gave my best to do my teaching practice; I have prepared the handout and the material (recording) so I think I did a sufficient preparation for the lesson. If I should teach the same material next time, I will try to teach the material in the different way so I can get the different experience and respond as well.

12th Reflection

Last Thursday there were Rei and Pauline’s performances. Their performances were good. I became observer at that time so I observed them from observation room. Actually the first performance should be Cahyo but he did not come so Rei became the first performance. I think her performance was good. Her fluency and pronunciation was good but sometimes I couldn’t hear her voice, I think she should speak louder. She could manage the class well. I think as a good teacher we should manage our class so the teaching process will work well. Next, Pauline’s performance was also good. She taught listening class. Her pronunciation was good.  However sometimes I did not understand her instruction. I think she should give a clear instruction. As a teacher we should give a clear instruction so that the students can understand what we mean. I think all the things in the class worked well. My friends have given their best for their performances, I hope I can do the same thing like my friends.

11th Reflection

Last Tuesday there were Sabina, Delis and Tia’s performances. Their performances were good. Sabina taught listening material about introduction. The grade was for Junior High School. I like Sabina’s material because she gave us video about introduction so it became more interesting. However, I think Sabina spoke too fast. She should slow down their speaking. I know she was very fluent while speaking but her students were in Junior High School so she should pay attention on it. Next, Delis’s performance was also good. I like the way she speaking, she was very careful while speaking. She also smiled all the time. Next, Tia’s performance was also good. She taught reading class about invitation. She was a very kind teacher. She gave us chocolatos to the students who could answer her questions. All of us tried to answer the questions because we wanted to get chocolatos. I think it was good method to attract our students so the student will be more interested with the material.
Last Thursday there were Carolina, Gilang and Anggi’s performances. Their performances were good. Carolina taught writing class about invitation. She was very relaxed while teaching. Her explanation was also good. I think as a good teacher, we should give a clear explanation so our students can understand well. The second performance was Gilang. He gave us a clear explanation and instruction so we as students can understand well what he wants. The last was Anggi. She was a cheerful teacher. She always smiles all the time and it made me comfortable with her teaching. I think it is good if we get closer with our students because it will be easier to give them a good understanding about the material. I think all the things worked well in this class.

10th Reflection

Last Tuesday was my teaching practice. I was the second person who did teaching practice at that day. I was very nervous at that time. I was afraid if I could not do my best but finally I could pass it. I think the lesson was successful because the students gave positive responds to my lesson. They answered my questions, did the exercise, and asked some questions. I was happy about that. It means that they understood my material. I think there were a lot of weaknesses of the lesson; the first one was my pronunciation, sometimes I pronounced some words incorrectly and I did not recognize it. The second one was time management. I only had five minutes left but I was still asking my students to present their conversation, my lecturer said it’s quite risky because it’s time to make set closure, I should mind it. The third was that I was speaking too much. I taught about speaking class but unconsciously I was speaking all the time. I should give the chance to my students to speak because it’s speaking class. They should speak as much as possible. The fourth was that I should make sure when I asked my students to make conversation, my students really did the assignment. I think the strengths of the lesson were I could manage the class, I reprimanded the students who did not pay attention to their friends and I involved the students to answer my questions. I think all of the students were active, they involved in the lesson. The lesson was also appropriate; it was not difficult because I just asked them to make a procedure about how to make some simple foods. I gave my best to do my teaching practice; I have prepared the handout and the material (power point) so I think I did a sufficient preparation for the lesson. If I should teach the same material next time, I will try to teach the material in the different way so I can get the different experience and respond as well.
There were Bayu and Riska’s performances last Thursday. As usual, I enjoyed my friends’ performances because I like pretending to be a student of senior High school. I think their performance were good. They gave the best for the performance. I think Bayu was good. He was a calm teacher bit he should mind his pronunciation. Sometimes he pronounced some words incorrectly. I know, it was difficult to recognize the right pronunciation if we were nervous.  Riska was also a good teacher. She really took care about the students, whether the students understood or not about the lesson. However she almost ran out of time so she just gave the simple set closure. I think it is ok but it will be better if she gave a proper set closure not in a hurry.

9th Reflection

As usual I always enjoy my friends’ performances. I like being their student because I can do anything what I want. At last Tuesday there were Mila, Hening and Anggi’s performances. They performances were great. Last Tuesday, I became observer for them so I observed their performances from observation room. It was the first time I entered and observed my friends from observation room, the room is great especially the tool. The tools are very sophisticated. The first performance was Mila. I liked the way she spoke. She was very fluent. The accuracy was also great; I could understand what her mean well. However sometimes her voice was disappeared so I could not hear her voice clearly but her performance was good. The second performance was Hening. His performance was also good. He was a funny teacher. He gave a lot of jokes while he was teaching. The students always laugh because of his jokes. I think it was good because a comfortable situation can make the students relax with our material. The third performance was Anggi. I think Anggi was a good teacher. She was very calm and relaxed. It seemed that she really mastered the material.  I think as a good teacher, we should master the material well so we can give the material to the students appropriately.
At last Thursday, there were Rei, Yosi and Rian’s performances. The first performance was Rei. Rei was very fluent. She could explain the material well but she was run out of time. I think it happened because her warming up material was too long. From that case, I learned that we should mind the time carefully. We should manage the time well so it will not distract other lesson. The second performance was Yosi. Yosi taught listening class about giving direction. Her performance was also good. She spoke fluently. Her pronunciation was also clear. I liked the way she teach because she seemed that she really cared about us, whether we understood or not with the material. The last performance was Rian. Rian’s performance was good. He gave us a complete material but sometimes I did not understand his instruction. Sometimes, his voice was disappeared. However I liked the way he teaches. He moved around the class and helped the students if the students found difficulty.

8th Reflection

Last week I really enjoyed my friends’ performances. There were Delis, Siwi and Tia’s performances. Their performances were great. I think Delis and Siwi will be a funny teacher in the future because they are always smiling and laughing with the students. However Delis’s performance was good. She relaxed and enjoyed her teaching. I think delis should give a deeper material so the students could understand well and have a clear understanding. After that, there was Tia’s performance. I liked her performance because she was a cheer ful teacher. She also smiled all the time so we as students felt comfortable. I liked the way she taught; she gave us a complete material. Her instruction was also good and it gave me a lesson. As a good teacher we should give a clear instruction so our students will not get confused with the material or assessment.  The last performance was Siwi. Siwi was also a good teacher. She gave her best. I liked Siwi’s material. The material was very interesting. It was a clear, funny and interesting material. Siwi taught listening class about narrative text. She gave us a simple movie about bear. It was very interesting; we not only could listen to the story but also could watch the picture. As a good teacher, we should prepare our material well. We should give the interesting material so our student will not get bored with our lesson.

7th Reflection

Last week I really enjoyed my friends’ performances. At last Tuesday there were Pauline, Detta and Nimas’s performances. Their performances were great. They did their best and I liked it. The most important things that I learned during the class last Tuesday were as a good teacher we should give a clear instruction for our students. Like Pauline did last Tuesday, I think she gave us a clear instruction so we could understand what we had to do at that time. We also should give an interesting material for our students. Nimas taught speaking class and she gave us recount material. I liked her material because she gave picture series to help us to understand the material easier. I think picture series really helped the students to understand the material and it can avoid the students getting bored with the material. Detta’s performance was also great. She taught listening class and the material was recount. She gave us a clear recording although she recorded it by herself but it was clear enough.
Last Thursday there were Beny, John and Dhimas’s performances. Their performances were also good. I think Beny was really calm. I believe later in the future he will be a passionate teacher. I think as a good teacher we also need passion when we are teaching our students. John taught reading class about recount. He was a cheerful teacher. He always smiles and I think it was good. I think his smile gave happiness in our class because his smile gave the students spirit to study better. Dhimas was also a great teacher. He gave the students a very clear explanation about recount text, the generic structure and the language feature inside it. I liked the way he taught us it seemed that he believed us that we can learn well.
I think all the things worked well in the class at that time.

6th reflection

Last week my class did lottery who should did teaching class first. I was very nervous. I was afraid. I did not want to get the first. Luckily I would be the 20th teacher who would teach in front of the class. At least I could prepare the material well. After that my lecturer gave us material about how to make a good lesson plan. Actually we had already taught about how to make lesson plan in the previous semester but my class were still confused.
From my lecturer, I got some important things that the component of lesson plan at least there are tujuan pembelajaran, materi ajar, metode pelajaran, sumber belajar and penilaian hasil belajar.  I also understood that indikator is same with tujuan pembelajaran but tujuan pembelajaran is more specific than indikator.  After that, my lecturer asked us to make a lesson plan for our teaching class later. We could consult and revise our lesson plan if we suddenly find new idea. I think if we want to be a good teacher, we should learn how to make a good lesson plan so we can give an appropriate material for our students.
Next, my lecturer also gave material about classroom management. I learned that if we want to be an effective teacher, we should have positive expectations for student success. We should trust our student that they will learn well. We also give them support to be better student and to achieve a better mark. An effective teacher also should be an extremely good classroom manager. The teacher should have well-ordered environment and positive academic expectation. A good teacher should organize students, space, time and materials so the students can study well. I also learned that being good teacher should have a discipline plan and assignments posted. Teacher also should start class immediately so it does not waste the time. Besides that teacher should know how to bring class to attention and know how to praise the deed and encourage the student. I hope I can follow that suggestion and I hope I can learn much from the material.

5th reflection

Last week I enjoyed my friends’ performance. There were some volunteers that came in front of the class practicing teaching. Their performances were recorded by my lecturer. The volunteers were Anggi and Tia. Anggi taught speaking class about describing people. She gave a very good set induction. She brought a big picture and we as the students should try to describe the picture. The picture was a boy who was handsome and young. I think it was good because she provided the picture that was interesting for young learner so the student would be interested to follow the lesson. Anggi also had a loud voice, her instruction was also clear but I think she should manage her time allocation. Because she was teaching speaking class, it should be better if she gave much more time to her student to speak.
Another volunteer was Tia. She also taught speaking class. Her performance was also good. However she forgot to bring set induction. She also forgot to bring the pattern of her material. I liked her performance because she always smiled and looked happy although I could see if she felt little bit nervous.  I also liked her material because the material is very interesting and did not make the students felt bored. I think both of my friends did her best and I appreciated them because they were brave to come in front of the class and practice teaching.

4th Reflection

Last week I enjoyed my friends’ performances. Gilang and Siwi did their teaching for the first time. Luckily, their performances were recorded by Pak Prast. I really enjoyed their performances because I pretended as a Senior High School’s student. I think their performances were great. They did the best for the performance. Gilang taught about procedure text. At the first time, we as students felt confused with some vocabularies, like puncture, rub and pump.  However, Gilang could overcome it; he gave us some clues so we could understand what he meant. From that, I could learn that we should give some clues for our students. If they find some difficulties, do not give the meaning directly, let they guest the meaning by themselves. After that Gilang gave the material. He asked us to complete the procedure about how to bend a puncture. I think the material was too difficult for the students in the first grade in Senior High School. However, Gilang gave very clear instructions for us. His voice was very clear so the whole class could hear his voice clearly.
I think as a good teacher, later we should mind about how to manage that time. We should prepare the opening, the main activity and the set closure. I think that three things should be given appropriately to the students so the students can master the material well. Besides that, we should consider about the interaction. A good interaction should happen not between teacher-students but students- teacher so there is a balance interaction. Gilang and Siwi’s performances were recorded so after their performances, we watched the video from the viewer. From that video, we could see Gilang and Siwi’s activity which they did unconsciously, like holding the paper to several time, nodding for several time etc.

Third Reflection

Last week I did my teaching group. I was very nervous at that time. I should teach one group consist of 12 students and the students are my classmate. I taught reading material about narrative text. Actually I did not feel very well at that time. I got cough and influenza for almost one week. I was afraid if my voice cannot be heard loud enough by my friends and unfortunately it really happened. When I taught my friends in front of the class, my voice was sunk by Anggi’s voice. Anggi was my teaching partner.  She also did teaching group like me but in another group. She taught speaking class so of course her class was very noisy. Unfortunately I taught reading class so my class was very calm. I tried to make a good interaction with my students but my voice could not help me. I received a lot of comments from my lecturer and it really helped to improve my teaching ability. I should give more spirit while I am teaching so my students can be more enthusiastic. Next, I also should be more communicative with my students so my students can get the lesson well.  Besides that, I should give set closure which is appropriately. Last week I forgot to give set closure, I did not give conclusion or summary to my students. I have to give summary or conclusion so my students can recall what they have learned during the lesson.
I really want to be a good teacher for my students later so I can help them study English well. I think I have a lot of weaknesses. One of my weaknesses is I cannot speak fluently. I always try to learn how to speak fluently but I do not know why I am still nervous while I am talking. I really want to improve my speaking ability.  I hope I can learn more and more how to speak fluently by joining this micro teaching class. Honestly, I enjoy joining micro teaching class because I have to pretend as a students and I enjoy that. Thank you… ;D

Second Reflection

I join micro teaching class because  that course is obligatory and i have to join that class. Honestly, I enjoy joining micro teaching class because I got a lot of knowledge about how to teach in front of the class. However, I am still  nervous when I join the class until now. I try to love this class by practicing teaching time by time in front of the mirror but I am still not confident with myself. I will try to give my best in micro teaching class. Actually,  I like this class because sometimes I should pretend to be a nice or a naughty student. I want this class because if I do not take this class this semester, it means that I cannot take PPL in the next semester. The positive things that i might gain from this class are 1. I will get a lot of knowledge about how to teach  my student well. 2. I will know how become a good teacher. 3. I will perform in front of the class and it will help me to practice how to teach well. I think there is no negative things that i might gain from this class. I hope, by joining this class I will find my sense to be a good teacher..hehehehe...

First Reflection

I did my first micro teaching class 2 weeks ago. I was very nervous. I was also afraid if I could not do my best in that class. Last week was the first time I entered the micro teaching's laboratory and that place is so wonderful. There are a lot of sophisticated things that will help us later when we are doing our micro teaching class. However I was still afraid although there are a lot of sophisticated things there because deep in my heart I was not ready to teach other people. But I will try to work hard so I can do my best.
The important thing I learned doing the course was I learned about how to open and close the class correctly. I learned that we have to give a good impression to our students when we are opening the class. Besides that, we have to give a support to encourage our student so they can study well. I have achieved how to make a good greeting when we are opening and closing the class. I learned that in the end of the class, we have to give a little time to give conclusion to our students so they can memorize what we have learned before. I think all the things were worked well in the classroom last week. I learned how to teach personally. It was like private course and i loved it.
After that, I learned about Teacher movement, teacher gesture, teacher voice, teacher silence, interaction style, eye contact and focusing contact. All that things gave me a lot of knowledge about how to teach well. I hope, I can practice it in my class later. My friends, Sely and Carol did her first teaching. They thought us about describing things. I enjoyed their performance because I was pretending as a student. I think, at that time…all the things worked well.
I have a question and I hope my friends or my lecturer can help me to answer the question. The question is should we give a conclusion every time in the end of the class?
